Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. comes from Carson, California and is made up of Samoan brothers. They became known in the late 1980s and 1990s for mixing hip-hop, funk, West Coast rap, and rap metal.
What makes them important is not just their music, but what they represent. They showed that Samoans could be seen and heard in hip-hop culture.
For me, this is personal. Growing up, my older brothers played their music, and that introduced me to their sound and culture.
